Getting Found: Why an Online Presence is Essential for Small-Town Business

Hello there! I’m Alexia Boyd, the founder of Flex Connections, a graphic design and business elevation company based in Princeton, BC, Canada. Our town is a place where community thrives, and word-of-mouth recommendations have always been a key driver of business success. But in today’s digital world, having an online presence isn’t about replacing traditional methods—it’s about enhancing them.

Why I’m Passionate About Helping Small Businesses

Helping businesses grow isn’t just my job—it’s something I genuinely care about. I’ve always been passionate about creativity, problem-solving, and finding ways to make life easier for others, and that mindset has shaped every step of my career.

Before starting Flex Connections, I worked in a variety of industries—firefighting, courier services, inventory control, customer service, museum curation, and administration. Each role taught me valuable lessons about organization, efficiency, and what it takes to run a successful business.

Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how much hard work, time, and heart small business owners put into their work. But I’ve also seen how overwhelming it can be to juggle everything—branding, websites, marketing, customer service, and day-to-day operations—all on their own.

That’s why I started Flex Connections. I wanted to take my design skills, business knowledge, and problem-solving experience and use them to help other small businesses thrive. I know what it’s like to wear multiple hats, and I also know how important it is to have the right tools and support in place.

Whether it’s building a custom website, branding a business, or streamlining a client experience, my goal is to make things easier for business owners while helping them grow.

I believe that every business—regardless of size or location—deserves the opportunity to reach its full potential. By creating custom websites and tailored digital solutions, I aim to bridge the digital divide and help local businesses thrive in the modern marketplace.

At the end of the day, my passion is seeing others succeed. If I can help even one business get found online, attract more customers, or feel more confident in their brand, then I know I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do.

More Visibility, More Customers

Princeton is a small but mighty town, and our businesses are full of passion and craftsmanship. But as someone who helps local businesses grow, I’ve noticed that many aren’t showing up where potential customers—both locals and visitors—are searching: online.

For tourism-heavy towns like Princeton, this is even more important. When travelers look up where to eat, shop, or stay, they rely on Google—and if your business isn’t there, they may never find you.

Why a Website Matters—Even If You Have Social Media

Many small businesses rely solely on social media, and while platforms like Instagram and Facebook are great for engagement, they don’t replace a website. A website is your digital storefront, giving customers one place to find everything they need to know about your business.

A Website Provides:

Credibility & Trust – A professional website reassures customers that you’re an established business and lets clients learn about you before ever stepping through your doors.

Easy-to-Find Information – Customers don’t have to scroll through Instagram or Facebook posts to find your hours, services, or location. While social media is great for updates, a website ensures all important details are in one easy-to-access place.

Google Search Visibility – Your website helps you appear in searches, making it easier for both locals and visitors to find you online.

More Control Over Your Brand – Unlike social media, where algorithms decide what people see, your website is fully yours—you control the message, the look, and the experience.

Keeping Community & Growth Connected

I love Princeton, and I love helping small businesses stay visible, thrive, and grow. A website doesn’t replace community connections—it strengthens them. It’s about making it easier for customers to support you, whether they hear about your business from a friend, drive past your storefront, or find you on Google.

If you’re wondering where to start, I’m here to help. Let’s put your business on the online map!
